2. Picture This: Image Processing Grows Up
------------------------------------------------------------

The money trail of big tech pay-offs began with voice, then moved to
text and now is headed squarely to image data. No longer are businesses
or individuals satisfied with words on a page peppered with flat and
lifeless 2-D images. Today's big data boost is far more colorful and

------------------------------------------------------------

Last week NetSuite held a user group meeting in Boston for OpenAir, a

4. Sony Delivers on Bleak Expectations
------------------------------------------------------------

Sony posted a 90 percent fall in quarterly profit as the global slowdown

5. Qwest Cuts Workforce as Profits Sag
------------------------------------------------------------

Qwest Communications posted a profit for its third quarter Wednesday,
but said the continued slide of its traditional phone business is
forcing it to cut 1,200 jobs, 3 percent of its workforce. The cuts will
come before the end of the year, which will leave the company with
33,500 employees, 9 percent fewer than at the end of last year.

6. Economic Woes Fail to Throttle Comcast Earnings
------------------------------------------------------------

Comcast, the nation's largest cable operator, on Wednesday reported a 38
percent increase in earnings for the third quarter as a sharp drop in
capital spending and higher cable TV rates buoyed its bottom line.
Bucking the trend among cash-strapped companies, Comcast also said it
expects to exceed its free cash flow growth forecast of at least 20
percent in fiscal 2008.

7. Microsoft Office to Go the Way of the Web
------------------------------------------------------------

Software behemoth Microsoft on Tuesday gave the first demonstration of

and the recent launch of IBM's Lotus Symphony set of free online
services.

------------------------------------------------------------

Search engine giant Google has settled two copyright lawsuits over its
Google Book Search program for $125 million. In two separate lawsuits,
the New York City-based Author's Guild and McGraw-Hill sued Google in
2005, alleging it had violated copyright laws through its scanning and
